Is the evangelism-social justice issue really settled? Or has the pendulum just swung to the other side?
While “the evangelization of the world in this generation” was the driving vision of the global missionary community in 1910, many students today “...wonder if they should even try,” said Doug McConnell, dean of Fuller’s School of Intercultural Studies. Much missionary work today is decidedly compassion and justice oriented, and this should be celebrated.
But lest we become un-holistic in the other direction, evangelism needs to remain on the agenda. Read my May/June PRISM column, “When in Doubt, Reminisce”, to hear my thoughts on the importance of evangelism.
